Newly appointed Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan assistant coach Akin Olowokere Monday slump and died shortly after he resumed work with the club ahead of the new season.
Coach Olowokere in Facebook post had revealed his excitement at been appointed assistant coach and was looking forward to helping the team this season, but it was a wish that wouldn’t be fulfilled. The former Sunshine of Akure player and coach was billed to work with Edith Agoye after coach Gbenga Ogunbote was sacked by 3SC management.
He slumped during training at the team training ground in Ibadan and died before he could get medical aid, he was confirmed dead at the hospital.
Before joining 3SC, Olowokere had served as an assistant coach at Sunshine Stars under coach Agoye, after ending a playing career in which he was a regular in the Akure-based side. His coaching credentials include British Council Football Coach Certificate, FIFA Technical GK Course, CAF C License,
The Monday session was part of 3SC’s pre-season preparations. Training was halted after the incident, and players and staff were seen leaving the pitch visibly shaken.
