Following allegations of double standards by the government in the case of disorderly conducts at the Abuja airport by Wasiu Ayinde Marshall a.k.a Kwam 1 and at the Lagos airport by Comfort Emmanson, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has clarify why the popular Fuji music was not remanded.
Miss Emmanson who became unruly on a flight from Uyo to Lagos aboard Ibom Air was dragged out of the aircraft and remanded in the Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos, whereas Kwam 1 who caused a more grievous offence of blocking a ValueJet airline from taking off was not arrested.
Speaking Tuesday NCAA director of public affairs Mike Achimugu said on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief: “The airline [in the singer’s case]did not activate its right to take the passenger to court. As a result, the NCAA petitioned relevant authorities to prosecute the passenger, issuing an advisory to the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) to have the passenger banned.”
However, in the Ibom Air case, where a passenger assaulted the airline’s staff member, he explained that the carrier immediately exercised its right to take up the matter in court.
“Maybe because their staff had been assaulted, the airline immediately activated its right to take up the matter, and it went to court, so the NCAA is not involved in the case of the Ibom Air passenger,” he said.
Meanwhile Miss Emmanson has been banned from flying for life by the Airline Operators of Nigeria. It also said that anyone who exhibited such behaviour, going forward, would suffer a similar consequence.
