Nigeria’s Super Eagles team B have been eliminated from the African Nations Championship after being thump 4-0 by Sudan on Tuesday at the Amani Stadium in Zanzibar.
The Super Eagles needed to win in the tournament, but it turned out to be a nightmare for the team most especially for defender Leonard Ngene who made two unforced errors to hand Sudan the lead before the break.
Ngene headed into his own net and later conceded a penalty as he attempted to head a looping ball from his area. Walieldin Khidir sent goalkeeper Mustapha Lawal the wrong way to make it two goals for Sudan.
Ngene who kicked his head for the errors was hauled off at the start of the second half, so was Sikiru Alimi who chosen ahead of Nigeria Premier League Football highest scorer Anas Yusuf by coach Eric Chelle
Things got worse in the 55 minute when AbdelRaziq Raouf capitalised on a poor clearance by the Super Eagles and knocked the ball into the net. He was back to finish off the Super Eagles with a delightful shot from out the box after yet again another poor defensive display. It was game over for the Super Eagles side who are returning to the tournament since 2018 when they were beaten 4-0 in the final by Morocco.
They will now play the final game of the tournament against Congo on Tuesday August 19.
