Former Golden Eaglets star Kelechi Nwakali has not been sacked by his English League 1 club Barnsley contrary to reports, his brother Allwell Nwakali has claimed.
It was reported Monday that Nwakali was asked to leave the club for not reporting for training on schedule. Though Nwakali has not featured for his club this season missing games against Plymouth Argyle, Burton Albion, Fleetwood Town, Bolton Wanderers and Peterborough United, his Allwell Nwakali stated that the player was not sacked.
“I’ve been told that the Kelechi Nwakali sacked by Barnsley, the story is fake news, his club will release a statement to clear the reports. You have to wonder where the story started from.
“Barnsley want him to stay, but he has requested a loan move… We have three to four clubs interested in him, both in England and abroad,” Allwell added.
Nwakali made 26 appearances and scored once for Burnley, a goal which won the Barnsley goal of the month of December.
In 2022 Nwakali was sacked by Spanish club SD Huesca was terminated six months early after a bitter standoff.
Then, the midfielder alleged he was pressured not to honour Nigeria’s AFCON call-up, denied wages, and even barred from training.
