Manchester United’s coach Ruben Amorim said he was “really emotional” after they wrestled all three points from Burnley with a 3-2 win at Old Trafford on Saturday.
The job saving win was coming after United were dumped out of the EFL Cup on Wednesday night by fourth division side Grimsby with a 12-11 shootout win after regulation time finish 2-2. Amorim was prepared to walk away if the team had lost against Burnley.
However, with only a few minutes left with scores at 2-2 Bruno Fernandes’ 97th-minute penalty secured all three points for United’s first win in the Premier League this season.
“I was frustrated like any Man United fan, we had chances to score more goals, create more chances. Today, the football was fair – we were the better team,” Amorim told BBC Sport.
“Some moments are really decisive. Sometimes we were not playing so well, but you can see the effort of everyone on the pitch wanting to win.
“I am always speaking with them to try and improve the team. I am really emotional, and in the last few months you can see why. I am like that, and you like that.”
