A Nigeria Defence Academy master’s degree engineering undergraduate Abdurraheem Mustapha, has been clubbed to death by bamboo stick welding policemen driving against the traffic in Kaduna.
Mustapha was on his way to lectures riding on a bike on August 29, 2025, when the policemen struck him without provocation as they tried to clear the traffic near Garkuwa Junction in Kaduna.
“He was on a bike on that Friday when the police van which was following one-way came speeding, they hit him on the head while the bike he was riding was in motion, you know the way they do while clearing way and speeding on a major road,” Mustapha’s elder brother, Sabiu Mustapha Abubakar told Saharareporters.
“He sat at the back of the bike, so they hit him with the stick at the back of his head.
“The people there insisted that he must be taken to a hospital, that was what made the police personnel take him to hospital. When they saw that the situation was serious, they ran away.”
“At the hospital, it was confirmed that he died from the force of the stick used to hit him, his body did not suffer any bodily harm but for the heavy bamboo stick which is popularly called Gora used in hitting him and killing him.”
According to him, the police tried to cover up their crime by insisting their van collided with their van
“The police have tried to cover up the incident, claiming instead that the bike collided with a car but many eyewitnesses deny such claims, it is unfortunate that those meant to protect him killed him.”
