Following wins by South Africa and Benin Republic in their respective World Cup qualifiers Friday the Super Eagles are now in a win or bust situation against Rwanda in the group C ties.
The Super Eagles playing at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium Saturday need all three points to stay in the qualification loop, even as beating Rwanda seem a herculean task based on the current form of the team and their winless record in Uyo.
But the team have the support of all Nigerian fans, and it is left to coach Eric Chelle to find the missing link and come up with a win against the Amavubi’s who they confidently beat in the first leg tie in Kigali.
The Amavubi all the same have informed the Super Eagles they too have ambition to win the game and put themselves in a good stead for qualification. According to the Rwanda Football Association president Fabrice Shema: “Losing is not an option, that’s what I told the players,”
“The atmosphere is good, and the coach (Adel Amrouche) told me that the players seem happy with the new manager, because they already know him from football.
“Last year we beat Nigeria here at home [in the 2025 AFCON qualifier played in Uyo, so we can do it again.”
However, former Super Eagles midfielder Mutiu Adepoju is optimistic the likes of Victor Osimhen can deliver.
“Everybody knows the importance of the game they are going to play now in Uyo,” Adepoju said in a chat with allnigeriasoccer.com.
“My advice is for the coach and the players to be focused and go for the win. Because that’s what is going to make everybody happy.”
“Even when they win the game on Saturday doesn’t mean that we have qualified. The Super Eagles have to win all the games remaining and wait for what happens with other teams.”
Victor Osimhen and Wilfred Ndidi need all the luck.
