Veteran Nollywood actor and singer Segun Arinze is not happy that some delinquent Nigerians are giving the country a bad name in Ghana and other countries.
Arinze who was speaking during a chat on Hit FM in Accra, Ghana against the background of scuffles between some Nigerians and citizens of the West African country concerning crime and other shady deals, said there was a need for Nigerians to be educated on respecting the laws, culture and tradition of whichever country they found themselves.
“I don’t believe that You should be coming to another country and be stupid,” Arinze boomed
“As a stranger you should respect their culture and their tradition, respect everything they stand for, because they are your host and you must comport yourself the best way possible; you don’t go into someone’s house and start scattering things, that is disrespectful.
“Nigerians should stop committing crimes, they should stop it. There is free enterprise, and they gave you space; use that space with respect and add value to it. I have never heard of Ghanaians coming to Nigeria to misbehave, they comport themselves.
“Imagine a Nigerian who wanted to become Igwe in Ghana. You left your home in Abia, Anambra or Imo and want to be Igwe, you couldn’t be in Igwe at home, and you want to be Igwe in Ghana, that individual deserves to have a hammer on his head.
Arinze added there must be some kind of activity by the Nigerian embassy in Ghana to give Nigerians coming to that country some orientation.
“It boils down to illiteracy and it’s a thing of the mind; Nigerians generally need to behave when they find themselves in other country.”
