Former Super Eagles striker, Yakubu Aiyegbeni, said lack of creativity in the currently squad was the reason the likes of Victor Osimhen continue to struggle with the team.
Yakubu who was speaking during a chat on Sunday Oliseh’s podcast concerning the Super Eagles precarious position in their 2026 World Cup qualifiers said there is no cohesion in the squad coach by Eric Chelle.
The Super Eagles need to beat Lesotho and Benin in their last group C games next month and hope for results that will go their way, otherwise it will be a back-to-back World Cup no show for Nigeria.
The Super Eagles are third in the group C table with 11 points, trailing South Africa, who have 17 points, and Benin Republic on 14 points.
“When we look at the team, we have too many defensive midfielders and not many attacking midfielders,” Yakubu said.
“If I play in this team, I will struggle to score goals.
“Because when I look at Osimhen when he plays, he is fighting because he knows already when he sees the goals he scores, and he has to hustle by himself.”
“We don’t play like a team, it’s individual football we play, and we want the players to make magic.”
Yakubu, in career scored 21 goals in 58 appearances for Nigeria.
