Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara Friday returned State Government House in Port Harcourt and took over the reins of authority from which he was suspend by President Bola Tinubu.
Fubara was being expected on Thursday after the President Tinubu lifted the state of emergency he declared on Rivers State following a political disagreement between Mr. Fubara and former governor Nyesom Wike.
Hundreds of supporters were on ground to welcome him, but it was of Friday his plane finally landed at the Port Harcourt international airport. His supporters turned out in numbers to welcome him waving banners, chanting solidarity songs, and celebrating what they described as a ‘victory for democracy.’
“I am really humbled by what I saw at the Airport. I was briefed with pictures too on what happened here yesterday. Your reception really humbled me, because it shows love, confidence and solidarity,” Fubara said.
“I want to say that it is not just the celebration, or the massive reception, by the number of people who came out to show solidarity, but a reaffirmation of the bond between this government and the people that we are serving.”
” I want to assure you that we will by the grace of God continue to do those things that made you people love us. I want to appreciate everyone and to say that we love you.”
He thanked the people of Rivers State for their unwavering support and solidarity during the period of his suspension.
“I appreciate everyone who gave support to bring normalcy back to Rivers State. I know everybody wants to hear something from me. In fact, I expected it when I landed. I won’t take President Tinubu’s kindness for granted.
I appreciate his timely intervention and unwavering dedication to ensuring peace and stability in our state. I also extend my gratitude to our leader, His Excellency Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, for his commitment to the prompt resolution of this political impasse in the state.
“There remain ample opportunities for necessary adjustments, reconciliation, and inclusiveness. Let us remember the saying: the costliest peace is cheaper than the cheapest war.
“This is a moment for a fresh beginning. Let us work together with renewed hope and determination to build a stronger and more peaceful Rivers State, ensuring that no one is left behind,” he added.
