The Nigeria Olympic Committee has appointed Navy Commodore Omatseye Oscar Nesiama rtd as the chairman of its technical committee.
NOC president Habu Gumel in the letter of appointment said the organisation is banking on Commodore Nesiama’s wealth of experience and contributions to the Olympic move to reshape Nigeria’s sports.
Commodore Nesiama is an internationally recognised World Athletics and Confederation of Africa Athletics technical official will mount the saddle with immediate effect.
Speaking on the new development Commodore Nesiama a former technical director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria stated: Our focus will be to carry out engagements with the federations and other stakeholders in order to properly understand and have an alignment between the NSC strategic performance and the NOC operational performance strategies and pathways. “This would require a workshop/clinic where the Podium Performance Team and the Federations Technical Departments would work together to forge an understanding. My commission would be that of facilitating cohesion in the planning and execution of these programmes”
Other members of the 16 member technical committee include Tunde Kazeem, Ebenezer Morakinyo, Kwekwu Tandoh, Samuel Jackson, Isiaku Yusuf Gontor, Daniel Ademola, Mohammed Isa, Amos Iliya, Sunday Gullong, Babs Ogunade, Christopher Amkpila, Kalu Chijioke Erem, Lt Col. G. Bello and Austine Odijie who is the secretary of the committee
Terms of reference for the committee include review sporting federations seeking NOC recognition and make recommendations to executive committee and board of the NOC
Liaise through the NOC with the Sports Ministry in monitoring Nigerian athletes in camp in preparations for Africa Games, Commonwealth Games and Olympic Games.
Organise seminars, workshops, training that will benefit sporting federations
Assist sporting federations in drafting their own statues/constitution
Produce code of conduct for athletes
Undertake any assignment given to it by the executive committee in the interest of sports development.
