Super Eagles and Lazio midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru is set to miss the crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin in October after picking up an injury that will keep him out for four weeks.
Dele-Bashiru lasted only 11 minutes in Lazio’s Serie A clash with Roma last Sunday. He was a doubt for the game, but Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri played him all the same in derby they lost 1-0.
According to reports scans on Dele-Bashiru revealed a Grade I injury in the right thigh flexor, which could keep him out for four weeks. This will rule him out of Lazio’s games against Genoa on Monday and Torino at the Stadio Olimpico on October 4.
Nigeria will take on Lesotho on October 6 and later on and Benin October 13.
Lazio medics will continue to help Dele-Bashiru in his recovery process with the hope that he would be fit for their clash against Ademola Lookman’s Atalanta on October 19.
Against Rwanda on September 6, Dele-Bashiru replaced Lookman in the Super Eagles 1-0 win at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium and was on for all 90 minutes against South Africa in Bloemfontein, a match they need to win, but salvaged a 1-1 draw.
