A soldier identified Lance Corporal Akenleye Femi attached to the Wawa Cantonment in Niger State has allegedly killed his wife and then took his own life.
According to the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 22 Armoured Brigade, Captain Stephen Nwankwo the incident occurred on October 11, 2025, inside the couple’s apartment at Block 15, Room 24, within the Corporal and Below Quarters of the barracks.
“The 22 Armoured Brigade is aware of the unfortunate case involving one of its personnel, Lance Corporal Femi, suspected to have killed his wife before committing suicide. The situation has left many residents of the barracks in deep shock,” Captain Nwankwo stated.
He added that the remains of both individuals had been preserved while the Nigerian Army continues its investigation to determine what led to the incident.
The Army expressed its condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased, describing the occurrence as deeply regrettable.
In his reaction, the Commander of 22 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier General Ezra Barkins, assured the public that the matter would be thoroughly investigated and that findings would be made public once concluded.
He also urged the public to remain calm and cooperative as the Army reviews measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
Recently a serving of Lieutenant Samson Haruna, died on October 6, 2025, from injuries sustained in aa fire allegedly set by his wife after a domestic dispute on September 22, 2025.
