The police in North Carolina, U.S. have arrested a woman for allegedly attempting to poison her husband after asking ChatGPT for information about toxic substances.
According to CBS News on the 14th, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested Cheryl Harris Gates, 43, on charges including first-degree attempted murder.
She is accused of intentionally adding prescription drugs to her husband’s energy drink to induce fainting or incapacitation. Investigations revealed that from July 8 to September 29 of last year, Gates used ChatGPT to research drug combinations that could be injected or ingested to cause fatal or paralyzing effects.
Police stated they found evidence that Gates researched multiple drugs online, purchased them, and attempted to execute her plan. Items including syringes, capsule-filling kits, medical droppers, scales, and drugs were discovered at her residence.
The victim, her husband, reportedly experienced paralysis symptoms on two occasions: July 12 and August 18. Controlled substances were detected in his drink.
At the time, the couple was reportedly separated. Gates had previously been arrested on September 7 on charges of stalking and property damage before her attempted murder arrest. She was found to have installed a tracking device on her husband’s vehicle and broken the windows of his residence.
