Senate president Senator Godswill Akpabio is once again in the eye of the storm following allegations he was behind the unexplained murders during his time as governor of Akwa Ibom State.
A Family member Pat Akpabio is the accuser and in the 2027 elections, she has vowed to challenge Senator Akpabio who was accused of sexual harassment by fellow Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan who later alleged in an open rally that Senator Akpabio and former Kogi governor Yahaya Bello plotted to assassinate her.
Pat Akpabio in a Facebook post stated: “For all the people you people have killed when you were the governor (of Akwa Ibom) and those you people have killed now that you are in the Senate, it will never be well with you.”
Senator Akpabio was in the saddle of affairs in Akwa Ibom between 2007 and 2015 under the PDP. He later defected to the APC and was elected Senate president in 2023 after playing a role in the emergence of President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election.
Pat Akpabio said her brother-in-law was betrayal who had dumped family and friends who helped him to climb the political ladder.
“You know I love you. I don’t hate you. I love you because you are a brother to my husband. I stood by you in 2019 when people wrote all sorts of things against you, did I collect 10 kobo from you? Today, you have the audacity to say that you are the one that made me.
“Akpabio forgets easily the good things people have done for him. In 2027, if he contests again, he will be disgraced.”
“When you finish, go home. This is your quit notice. Go home and rest; you need to take care of yourself.
“Nigerians don’t know who you are. When they do, they’ll know you are a very wicked man.”
Meanwhile, according to Senator Akpabio’s spokesperson, Eseme Eyiboh, in an interview with Premium Times, dismissed the allegations.
“I think she is just doing it for attention. Who is going to give her that attention? The Senate president is very busy.
“Apart from the person who alleges, every other person is aware that those accusations do not exist,” he stated.
Reminded that there were indeed several killings in Akwa Ibom during Akpabio’s time as governor, Mr. Eyibo added: “You are aware that the challenge of insecurity is not only in Akwa Ibom, but also national, it is global.
You can’t say that Tinubu is the person who is bombing, killing people, using Boko Haram and gunmen. You can’t say so because it is his government.
“It will also be unfair and uncharitable to say that insecurity or people were killed during Akpabio’s administration. And of course, you know that the insecurity problem is mostly out of this aboriginal question. We have an increase in cult-related activities and drugs.”
