Following Monday’s #FreeNnamdiKanu rally in Abuja, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, his brother Emmanuel Kanu and ten others have been arraigned at a Magistrate Court sitting in Kuje, Abuja.
According to the Nigeria Police Force spokesperson CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the accused persons were arraigned for allegedly violating a court order that prohibits protests around the Three Arms Zone in Abuja.
He added that they have been charged with a two-count offence of inciting public disturbance and breach of peace.
According to the charge sheet, the suspects allegedly obstructed traffic flow, denied citizens their right to free movement, and chanted war songs while demanding the release of Nnamdi Kanu.
The police charged the 13 persons with various offences, including criminal conspiracy, disobedience of a lawful order, inciting disturbance, and disturbance of public peace, contravening sections 152, 114, and 113 of the Penal Code Law.
The 13 defendants named in two separate first information reports (FIRs) are Ejimakor, Kanu’s brother, Emmanuel, Joshua Emmanuel, Wilson Anyalewechi, Okere Kingdom Nnamdi, Clinton Chimeneze, Gabriel Joshua, Isiaka Husseini, Onyekachi Ferdinand, Amadi Prince, Edison Ojisom, Godwill Obioma, and Chima Onuchukwu.
The magistrate, who stood down the case, later ordered that the defendants be remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre and adjourned the case until October 24 for arraignment.
