Nigeria’s Super Falcons are firmly in control of their destiny as they beat Benin Republic’s Amazons 2-0 in the first leg qualifiers of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Lome, Togo.
Despite the debilitating conditions and the confusion about which national anthem to play for the 10 times African champions at the Stade de Kégué in Lomé, they dominated the game giving no room for error against their counterparts.
Chinwendu Ihezuo and Esther Okoronkwo scored in the first half of the game with assists from Deborah Abiodun and that was enough for the Super Falcons to kill off the game.
In the second half the Super Falcons controlled the ball keeping the Benin women at bay.
The second leg will be decided Monday, October 28 at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta. And most certainly the Super Falcons will get another win to seal their ticket for the WAFCON billed for Morocco.
Ghana’s Black Queens beat Egypt 3-0 away, South Africa held DR Congo 1–1 in Kinshasa, Ghana while Zambia triumphed 4–2 against Namibia in Johannesburg.
