Renowned sports administrator Tayo Kuburat Popoola has been elected Taekwondo Federation of Nigeria president.
Miss Popoola a pioneering Taekwondo practitioner was elected unpossessed after receiving the support of all delegates to the election held at the MKO National stadium, Abuja.
Popoola who was previously TAN vice president is one of Nigeria’s acclaimed women Taekwondo practitioners. Stakeholders see her election as a new dawn for the sport which had gone through turbulent times in recent years.
“As you may not have known, the new President has been involved in Taekwondo for all her life, she is someone who can unite all past and present taekwondo practitioners,” said a stakeholder of the sport.
Speaking on her election Miss Popoola the founder of annual Lagos Women’s Run said she has been overwhelmed by the level of support.
“It was really amazing the words of encouragement and support from taekwondo stakeholders.
“I even had an army General who called to tell me I should leave everything I was doing to come to Abuja right away for the election.
“It is a call to duty and with the support of all taekwondo lovers the new board will do all its best to relaunch the sport.”
