Social activist and politician Omoleye Sowore, Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer Aloy Ejimakor and brother of the Indigenous People of Biafra leader Emmanuel Kanu regain their freedom Monday evening.
The trio and ten others following their participation in the #FreeeNnamdiKanuNow were arraigned by the police before a Magistrate Court in Kuje Area Council Abuja, which eventually granted them bail on Friday. Sowore was wrestled back into prison custody by the police.
In his ruling, Magistrate Sai’id granted the defendants bail in the sum of ₦500,000 each, with conditions that they present a verified National Identification Number (NIN), submit their three-year tax clearance certificates, and deposit their passports with the court.
After fulfilling the bail requirements, Sowore and the other defendants regained their freedom from Kuje Prison on Monday evening.
Meanwhile a Federal High Court on Monday has fixed November 5, 2025 for the hearing of the suit brought against Sowore, Meta and X social media for allegedly defaming President Bola Tinubu
Sowore is accused of contravening the provisions of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) Amendment Act, 2024.
The offence is said to be contrary to Section 24 (1) (b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) Amendment Act, 2024, among other counts.
