China said Tuesday that it firmly opposes US President Donald Trump’s ambition to send his military to combat terror gangs that are ‘killing Christians’ in the north and central parts of the country.
Mr. Trump at the weekend urged his political and military officials to prepare for the likelihood of sending troops to stop the “Christian genocide” in Nigeria.
“At President Trump’s direction, the Department of War is planning options for possible action to stop the killing of Christians in Nigeria,” White House spokesperson Anna Kelly said in a statement.
“Any announcements will come from the President directly.”
But speaking at press conference Tuesday in Beijing, China’s foreign affairs ministry spokesperson Mao Ning, said China is against the US using religion and human rights as an excuse to interfere in other countries’ internal affairs, and threatening other countries with sanctions and force.
“As Nigeria’s comprehensive strategic partner, China firmly supports the Nigerian government in leading its people on the development path suited to its national conditions.
“China firmly opposes any country using religion and human rights as an excuse to interfere in other countries’ internal affairs, and threatening other countries with sanctions and force,” Ning said.
