A 15-year-old girl declared missing in Enugu by her parents has been rescued from sexual slavery in Tarkwa, Ghana.
The Ghana police during an operation saved the girl and arrested the lady who trafficked her from Nigeria.
According to a statement issued Wednesday by the Ghana police, the girl was traced and found in Tarkwa after her father Onuigo Onuigbo contacted the police about his missing daughter who had left home since October 2025.
It was gathered that the girl had made a distress call to her father revealing that she had been trafficked and was being held in Tarkwa a mining town in the Western Region.
Investigations led to the arrest of a 25-year-old Joy Ogbonna at Aboso near Tarkwa.
Another suspect, Golden Blessing, who is believed to have deceived the teenager with a promise of a cleaning job in Lagos before handing her over to Ogbonna, is currently on the run and believed to be hiding in Nigeria.
According to the police, Ogbonna allegedly confined the girl in a room in Tarkwa and forced her into prostitution.
A concerned neighbour helped her contact her father, which led to her rescue. Medical tests have confirmed that the girl is pregnant.
The police said Ogbonna remains in custody and will be put before court, while efforts continue to apprehend her accomplice.
