Out of favour Super Eagles striker, Victor Boniface said he is down on luck each time he is invited to the national team.
Boniface who is on loan at German side Werder Bremen had failed to live up to expectations at the international level with the Super Eagles.
He has played 13 games without a single game to show for it, a disappointment for a striker who scored 22 times out of 42 games for his parent club Bayer Leverkusen in the 2023 season when they won a German double.
“I have been unlucky with the national team in terms of scoring goals, even though there were a couple of games where I was not good,” Boniface told sports journalist Oma Akatugba in an interview.
“My biggest dream as a football player is to represent my country, and I achieved this, and I am grateful for this. Because it has not worked well for me with the national team does not mean I am a bad player.”
Boniface missed the Super Eagles last World Cup qualifying games, but according to him, it is not yet over with national team.
“Struggles in a few games don’t define me or reduce the pride I feel every time I play for Nigeria,” he added.
“I’m always proud to play for Nigeria.
“It hasn’t been easy, but I believe my moment will come. I’ll keep working hard and stay ready whenever I’m called up.
