Cameroon opposition leader Issa Tchiroma Bakary has given President Paul Biya 48 hours to release all political prisoners, otherwise Cameroonians will take law into their own hands.
Mr. Tchiroma had claimed victory in the October 12 presidential elections, but according to the Cameroon Constitutional Council the incumbent won by 53.66 percent, while Tchiroma scored 35.19 percent. Since then, Cameroon have been rocked by protesting Tchiroma supporters with about 48 people killed and over 1200 persons arrested by security forces.
Speaking in video seen on social media Sunday Mr. Tchiroma, believed to be taking shelter in Yola, Adamawa State Nigeria accused the government of “state gangsterism and state terrorism.” He also asked authorities to stop practices that he said include “ethnic purges.”
“The Cameroonian people no longer want them; the Cameroonian people can no longer tolerate them. If those arrested are not released in 48 hours, the people will feel free not only to protect themselves but also to do everything possible to protect their children and recover them wherever they are”
Biya,92, was sworn in for the eight term in office on November 5.
