Following last Saturday’s fans riot at a Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) tie between Katsina United and visiting Barau FC, club owner Shawwal Barau Jibrin has clarified that none of his players had their throat slit.
Barau FC midfielder Nana Ibrahim had laid on the field doing the usual footballer “play acting” after he received a cut on his neck and news quickly spread on the internet his throat was slit. The NPFL management has since fined Katsina United and banished them to Jos for the incident, in which a total of nine Barau FC players and officials were injured.
Shawwal Barau Jibrin disclosed that Nana Abrahim a Ghanaian has been discharged from the hospital in Kano and others who suffered injury are also doing fine.
“We glorify Allah that all the injured persons have been discharged, including Abraham, who had a cut on his neck.
“He was discharged on Sunday night. The news that one of our players was killed and the throat of another was slit was false. This misinformation was being spread to cause confusion,” he said.
