With 48 hours to go for the first match of the World Cup qualification play-offs against Gabon’s Panthers, top Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen was yet to show up in camp.
On Tuesday morning 21 players trained, Osimhen and goalkeeper Maduka Okoye were noticeable absentees, leaving fans worried.
On Sunday after Galatasaray’s 1-0 loss to Kocaelispor in the Turkish Super Lig, Osimhen was seen in a viral video tell reporters, he had to travel and join the national team.
Nigerian fans wishing to see their team at the 2026 World Cup were excited by the renewed spirit, but on Tuesday they were asking for the whereabouts of Osimhen who has scored six goals in the qualifiers including a hat-trick in their last group C CAF World Cup qualifiers 4-0 win against Benin Republic. A feat that earned Nigeria a spot in the playoffs.
Nigerian fans on X social media summed up the feelings. One fan wrote: “Where is Spiderman?! Where is VICTOR OSIMHEN?”, while another replied, “Hope you people are in contact with Victor Osimhen?”.
“Have you called Victor Osimhen?”, another fan posted.
Meanwhile Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle is hoping to have his talisman by Tuesday evening and still have a whole day training together before they meet Gabon at the Moulay Hassan Stadium in Rabat, Morocco.
