There would be no consequences for Lieutenant A.M Yerima the soldier who refused to be bullied by Federal Capital Territory minister Nyesom Wike during a standoff over land on Tuesday in Abuja.
Minister of defence, Mohammed Badaru, who dropped the hint on Wednesday said the young officer was on lawful duty and obeying a command when he refused to let Wike and his entourage access a plot of land belonging to a former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Zubairu Gambo.
Badaru said, “At the Ministry, and indeed the Armed Forces, we will always protect our officers on lawful duty.
“We are looking into this issue, and we assure that any officer on lawful duty will be protected highly. We will not allow anything to happen to him so far, he is doing his job, and he’s doing his job greatly well.”
The video of the altercation between Wike and officer Yerima went viral on social media and Nigerians have salute the Yerima for remaining calm despite provocations from Wike even as other felt he should have showed some respect to the FCT minister.
