Bandits have ambushed the Soldiers sent to rescue the 25 students of the Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, Kebbi State who were kidnapped on Monday during an invasion by suspected bandits.
The soldier came under fire as they drove in their vans carrying out the mission of rescuing the girls. A video shared on X by Sahara Reporters show the soldiers groaning in pain with bullet wounds and their vehicles riddle with bullets.
One of the soldiers was heard speaking in Hausa language: “Musa has a bullet lodged in his leg. His condition is very bad.”
The attack is coming two days after the bandits invaded the girls only school, killed the vice principal and went away with the students. Two of them escaped.
Chief of Army Staff, COAS, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, who was in Kebbi Tuesday had ordered the troops to comb the forests for the girls.
Meanwhile a security intelligence and investigation expert, Yahuza Getso, has claimed that he shared the information of the attack with relevant authority, but no action was taken.
“It’s total negligence. It’s a total sabotage against the state because I, who I’m talking to you, have provided information about insinuations that some local governments are at risk of a serious attack by bandits,” Getso told Channels TV in a chat.
“I have sent information to the highest level of authority, to the highest level of intelligence, to the highest level of operational team within the circle of the state of Kebbi, and that of, sorry, and that of Niger, and to the hierarchy at Abuja, and to the hierarchy at certain levels.
“But yet, after three hours, I still follow up: ‘These guys are still coordinating themselves. These guys are within so, so, so location.’
“And if at all, it is confirmed information: there was also the presence of a military or whatever security within the school, but they left. After they left, within a short period of time, the bandits came in.”
