Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni has said the President Bola Tinubu’s government to prosecute those responsible for violence against Christians in the country.
Meloni said in a statement Friday that attacks on Christians because of their faith is condemnable, saying that religious freedom was the right of every human being.
“We strongly condemn the renewed violence against Christian communities in Nigeria today. Religious freedom is an inalienable right: we call on the Nigerian government to strengthen the protection of Christian communities and all religious communities and prosecute those responsible for this heinous attack.
“Italy expresses its closeness to the victims and communities in Nigeria that today feel in danger because of their religious beliefs,” she wrote.
Though the Federal government and its sympathisers have argued that “Christian genocide” is overstated since Muslims are also killed by the terror gangs, events of the last two days made government denials hard to buy.
Last Thursday three worshipers were killed and 30 others kidnapped by gunmen who invaded Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku Kwara State. The incident was capture live and went viral on social media.
And on Friday gunmen invade St Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri Niger State and carted away 315 students and teachers.
