Living Faith Church Worldwide a.k.a Winners Chapel founder Bishop David Oyedepo has called on Christians in the country to fight against terror with fasting and prayer following escalation of attacks by terror gangs.
Bishop Oyedepo who was preaching during Sunday’s service said Nigeria “will never become an Islamic State” as it was obvious that is the ultimate goal of the insurgent elements. He warned that the rising attacks on churches and Christian communities must not be ignored.
He described the past weeks as “worrisome,” noting that the attacks were clear attempts to intimidate Christians and destabilise communities.
He said, “Developments in the past two weeks, particularly in Nigeria, are worrisome to say the least… all the innocent blood shared is speaking vengeance… all the perpetrators will pay with their lives.”
He reminded the church of his long-standing warnings about insecurity. According to him, he has been speaking for over 15 years, and the recent incidents only confirm the urgency of the message.
The bishop urged Christians to intensify prayers, especially at night. He directed members of his church to hold one-hour midnight sessions to “stand against violence before it grows into anarchy.”
He questioned why attacks on churches continue without consequences, stressing that “the God of justice” will rise in defence of the innocent.
The cleric cited scripture on peace and divine judgment, stating that God will calm the nation and punish those behind killings, kidnappings, and terrorism. He encouraged Christians to anoint their homes and join the midnight prayer raid.
