One of India’s best-known actors Dharmendra Deol has died at 89 after several days of battle with illness.
The Bollywood actor died at home Monday after several days of in and out visits to a Mumbai hospital. Dharmendra is survived by two wives and six children.
Fans of Bollywood movies from around the world will remember Dharmendra for his roles in films such as ‘Ayee Milan Ki Bela’, ‘Phool Aur Patthar’, ‘Aaye Din Bahar Ke’, ‘Seeta Aur Geeta’, ‘Raja Jani’, ‘Jugnu’, ‘Yaadon Ki Baaraat’, ‘Dost’, ‘Sholay’, ‘Pratiggya’, ‘Charas’, ‘Dharam Veer’, among others.
In 2023, he was seen in ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’, directed by Karan Johar.
“A massive mega star, the embodiment of a hero in mainstream cinema,” producer and director Karan Johar, who cast Dharmendra in his 2023 film “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani” (Rocky and Rani’s Love Story), wrote in an Instagram post.
Known to his legion of fans by his first name, Dharmendra acted in more than 300 films in a career spanning more than six decades.
