Liverpool and Egypt star Mohammed Salah has been dropped from the team that will play against Inter in Tuesday’s Champions League clash.
After last Saturday’s 3-3 draw against Leeds at Ellan Road, Salah lamented that he hasn’t been given enough playing time and that his relationship with Liverpool manager Arne Slot has not been the best.
Slot, speaking Monday ahead of the Inter game confirmed that he has not been talking much to Salah who is heading to the Africa Cup of Nations and perhaps find another club in January. Slot said the only communication he has had with Salah since Saturday’s bombshell interview was to tell the player he would not be travelling to Italy for the game against Inter.
“It was a surprise to me when I heard he gave the comments he gave,” said Slot, in a press conference on Monday.
“I’m calm, polite – but that doesn’t mean I’m weak. It’s up to us as a club to react and you can see he isn’t here.”
Salah could play his last game with Liverpool on Saturday against Brighton before heading for the AFCON, but Slot he is not sure yet if Salah will play.
“I’m a firm believer there’s always a possibility to return for a player,” said Slot.
However, when he was pressed on whether Salah had played his final game for Liverpool, Slot said: “I have no clue, I cannot answer that question in this moment in time.”
