The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Niger State said it has no information neither do parents on the reported release of 100 students who are part of the 250 kids in custody of gunmen who kidnapped them from the St Mary’s Catholic School Papiri Niger State.
CAN Niger State Chapter chairman Bishop Bulus Yohanna, said in a statement Monday that the community is yet to see the kids nor receive information about their release.
“It will be a thing of joy if some of our children have been released. We have been praying and waiting for their return. If it is true, then it is a cheering news. However, we are not officially aware and have not been duly notified.
‘We hope and pray it’s true and will be looking forward to when the remaining will be released”, the statement read.
The gunmen invaded the school on November 21, 2025, abducting 315 people—303 students and 12 teachers. About 50 of the kids managed to escape from the captors.
Last National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu visited Papiri and assured parents that their kids would be released. It is not yet clear how the 100 reported to have regain their freedom were able to do so.
