Embattled Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has torn up his membership card of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) wagon.
Fubara said Tuesday during a stakeholders’ meeting at the government house in Port Harcourt, that he teamed up with the APC as a “gesture of reciprocity” for President Bola Tinubu’s support and encouragement during his skirmish with former River State governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike.
“We can’t support Mr President if we don’t fully identify with him; not backyard support,” the governor said.
“So, we have taken that decision today since we have gotten a pass. Everyone here, who followed and suffered with me, our decision today [is that]we are moving to APC.
“I don’t want to make any mistakes this time around. I wish also not to step on any landmines that anyone is laying for us. So I was with Mr. President yesterday to brief him on the situation of things in our state, and I believe he has taken note and is going to act sweetly on it.
Last week 15 members of the Rivers state house of assembly, including Martin Awaewhule, the speaker, joined the APC.
Fubara his deputy Ngozi Odu and the entire members of the house of assembly were suspended for six months in March 2025 by President Tinubu in heat of the political stalemate between Fubara and Wike.
