Osun State governor Ademola Adeleke has been cleared by the Accord Party to contest in its primary elections billed for Wednesday.
Governor Adeleke and his deputy Kola Adewusi officially joined the party on Tuesday after annoucing his resignation from the People’s Democratic Party citing the crisis tearing apart the PDP as his primary reason.
Speaking Wednesday in a statement Accord Party chairman Thankgod Ike said Adeleke has been screened by the party and was free to participate in its primaries.
Adeleke praised the Accord Party leadership, for their rapid processing of his application to join and contest under the party for the 2026 general elections in the State.
“I am ready for the primary and I am ready for the general elections. We are winning by God’s grace,” he said.
Meanwhile Osun commissioner for information Kolapo Alimi, said governor Adeleke had long concluded his plan to join the Accord Party, but kept it from the public to avoid distracting recent PDP convention in Ibadan.
“He resigned from the PDP on November 4 and joined Accord on November 6,” Alimi said. “He only delayed the public declaration because the PDP convention was ongoing, and he didn’t want people to accuse him of disrupting the event,” Mr Alimi told Channels TV.
“He left because the leadership crisis of PDP was unending.
“People have welcomed him since his unveiling yesterday. They believe Accord fits with the good governance he’s been delivering.”
