A daring truck driver Wednesday locked down thousands of motorists using the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at the Ogere, Ogun State section by blocking both lanes in protest.
He alleged that Federal Road Safety Corps officials seized his truck battery after he refused to comply with their demand for money. The situation became tense as his other colleagues joined in the protest.
Motorists going in and out Lagos were trapped in the long hold. There was a long standoff between the drivers and security agents who tried to clear the road; however, the situation was brought under control.
Meanwhile, at the Otedola Bridge end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. A couple and their infant child were crushed to death and three other motorists critically injured in multiple crash.
The incident occurred when a truck on high speed lost control and rammed into a car from the rear causing a pile up of three vehicles. The driver of the truck escaped from the scene avoiding arrest.
“The tragic accident instantly claimed the lives of three members of the same family father, mother and their young child while two other victims sustained critical injuries underscoring the devastating consequences of reckless vehicular conduct,” Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), director of enlightenment and public affairs Adebayo Taofiq said in a statement.
