Former Governor of Anambra State, Chris Ngige, is cooling off in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), after being whisked from his Abuja home on Tuesday.
Ngige a two-tenure minister of labour in Mohammadu Buhari’s regime is accused of job racketeering and irregular contract awards at the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), after inviting top officials linked to a disputed ₦47 million gratuity payment and suspected contract breaches totalling ₦1.8 billion.
According to Fred Chukuelobe who is an associate of the former minister of labour about 20 operatives from the EFCC’s Wuse II Zonal Office stormed his residence on Justice Mohammed Bello Road, Asokoro, on Tuesday. He alleged that Ngige was “whisked away” without being allowed to change out of his pyjamas.
“The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) will possibly today charge the immediate past Minister of Labour and Productivity and former Anambra State Governor, Chris Ngige, to court. Dr. Ngige was yesterday whisked away from his residence in Abuja by about 20 EFCC officers from its Zonal office, Wuse II, Abuja, in what a family member described as “commando-style raid”. He was not allowed to change his clothes and was taken away still wearing his pyjamas.” Chukwuelobe wrote on his Facebook social media platform.
Ngige, a member of the All-Progressives Congress (APC), served as Anambra State governor between May 2003 and March 2006 under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Ngige
