Four heavily armed men Friday afternoon caused mayhem in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, their target was a man carrying a huge amount of cash.
The gang had been stalking the victim who was riding in a Toyota Sienna wagon, they finally blocked him with their vehicle an ash-coloured Toyota Corolla along the Muritala Muhammed Way, Ilorin. They shot sporadically in the air after demobilising the Sienna with bullets fired into the tyres and the rear windshield.
Three of the masked gang members pulled the victim out his car and moved the money he was carrying to their get-away vehicle.
“They packed the cartons full of money from the Toyota Sienna into their Corolla before speeding off,” an eyewitness to the robbery said.
There was pandemonium as the hijack lasted the victim was hit in the arm by a stray bullet and several other people fleeing the scene sustained injury they include, Stephen Oni, a journalist working with the New Telegraph.
There was no response from the police while the robbery lasted. Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, did not was available for comments on the incident.
