Osun State governor Ademola Adeleke was on Sunday confronted with another challenge after the Accord Party produced another governorship candidate for the 2026 election.
Mr. Adeleke had dumped the People’s Democratic Party citing unending the crisis that has engulfed the entity that ruled Nigeria for 16 years, but barley four days after he pitched his tent with the Accord Party and was crowned the party’s flag bearer, another faction of the Accord Party produced Clement Bamigbola as its governorship candidate.
The confusion emerged when the faction claimed that Maxwell Ngbudem who warmly received Adeleke last Wednesday was not the national chairman of the Accord Party.
The faction with over 300 delegates held a congress and elected Bamigbola as the factional candidate during a primary held at Regina Suite, Osogbo.
Meanwhile the Forum of Southwest Chairmen of the Accord Party has expressed confidence that Adeleke, will secure re-election in 2026.
Its spokesperson and Accord Party chairman in Ogun, Mr Rotimi Oke, made the remarks in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos.
“If a leader is good, even his critics cannot overlook his genuineness and sincerity in governance,” Oke said.
He added that Adeleke’s administration is built on service and performance, noting that the governor is not given to deceit or political manipulation.
“The state’s infrastructure deficit dropped from over 80 per cent in 2022 to about 40 per cent in 2025.”
Citing spontaneous public support after Accord’s primary election as proof of mass acceptance, Oke said Accord leaders and supporters recently embarked on an unplanned procession through Osogbo, with residents trooping out, chanting slogans in support of Adeleke and the party.
He concluded that with the level of public support and Adeleke’s performance, the governor would defeat other candidates to win re-election in 2026.
