One of Hollywood best known director of the romance genre and actor Robert Reiner,78, and his wife Michele Singer Rainer,68, were on Sunday stabbed to death in their home in Los Angeles, USA.
The police have detained his son Nick Rainer,32, as the prime suspect.
According to reports, LA Fire Department personnel arrived at the Rainer couple’s Brentwood residence around 3:30 p.m. December 14 after receiving a medical emergency call and discovered the two bodies. The LAPD confirmed, “It is correct that we are investigating a family member as the primary suspect.”
Rob Rainer was born in 1947 in the Bronx, New York, the son of legendary comedian and writer Carl Reiner. In the 1970s, he gained recognition for his acting in the sitcom “All in the Family,” winning two Emmy Awards for his role as Mike, the son-in-law of the main character. He later transitioned to directing, showcasing his versatility across genres from romantic comedies to thrillers and courtroom dramas.
He was credited with pioneering the romantic comedy genre through the 1989 film “When Harry Met Sally.” He was also famous for the 1992 courtroom drama “A Few Good Men” starring Tom Cruise.
