Onyeka and Osimhen

Midfielder Fred Onyeka has tipped teammate Victor Osimhen to lift the Super Eagles with his goal scoring prowess at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations starting December 21 in Morocco.
Going to the AFCON the Galatasaray of Turkey striker is one player Nigerian fans are banking on to deliver and according to Onyeka who was one of the outstanding players in the 2023 AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire Osimhen will be a standout performer in the Super Eagles squad based on his current form.
Osimhen, 26, has scored 31 goals in 45 appearances for the Super Eagles, he is second in Nigeria’s all-time goalscoring list behind the Rashidi Yekini who banged in 37 goals from 62 matches.
“Osimhen is such an amazing player,” Onyeka told BBC Sport Africa.
“He’s a guy that wants to fight for every single ball. For me, I think the defenders are scared of him.
“Victor is on another level.”
At the rear Onyeka said up and coming young defender Benjamin Frankling would be missed after the player picked up an injury during the World Cup qualifier playoffs between Congo DR and Nigeria in November.
“It’s a big blow for us because Benjamin has integrated himself into the (Nigeria) team and everybody loves him,” said Onyeka.
“He has done so well in the games that he has played. We expected him to be a very big part going into the tournament.
“And as a guy, as a player, he’s just outstanding. The way he reads the game defensively is just so strong.”
