The Cranes of Uganda have warned group C opponents Nigeria, Tanzania, and Tunisia they are not in the African Cup of Nations to make up the numbers.
Ugandan will kick off their campaign against Tunisia, while Nigeria and Tanzania will square up in the other group C tie on Tuesday December 23. According to striker Melvyn Lorenzen Uganda is aiming to score a big win over the top teams and advance from the group.
“Even against the big nations, it’s always a good result. We’ve never gone under, they’ve always shown themselves in a good light. So, I think any team that comes won’t be comfortable playing us. It’s time to prove that again,” Lorenzen told Uganda Football Association official website.
Melvyn Lorenzen, who plays his club football in Thailand, was recently named in head coach Paul Put’s 28-man squad for the tournament, as confirmed by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA). The striker expressed his pride in representing his country on such a major stage.
While he has only recently rejoined the national team setup, Lorenzen stated that he has been closely following the team’s progress.
