Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has sounded a clarion call to his teammates to ensure a smooth sailing for the team at the African Cup of Nations starting December 21 in Morocco.
Ndidi was officially named captain of the Super Eagles on Friday ahead of their opening game against Tanzania on December 23 in Fez. The Besiktas of Turkey player is stepping into the role vacated by William Troost Ekong who quit the after the World Cup qualification fiasco.
Speaking on his new role, which of course he had played at different times Ndidi said: “It is a huge role, but I think with the help of the players, everything will go smoothly.
I have had conversations with a couple of the older players to make them understand the reason why we are here,” the 29-year-old said.
“I also need the support of the staff because we are all in this together. We have had conversations about the task ahead, and it is very important that we are all on the same page.”
The Super Eagles after the game against Tanzania will play against Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles December 27 and the Cranes of Uganda December 30.
