The Nigeria Football Federation says it is still expecting a response from FIFA with regards to the petition if filed against Congo DR for fielding ineligible players during the World Cup play offs.
Several reports in the last few hours say the world soccer governing body has thrown out the NFF’s petition, but according to the secretary-general of the NFF Mohammed Sanusi, they are still expecting an official response from FIFA on the matter.
“The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) wrote a petition to FIFA on the eligibility of some of the players of DR Congo, and if there is anything, FIFA will reply to the NFF,” Sanusi told AIT news.
“The NFF has not received any letter from FIFA saying they have thrown away our petition.
“We have checked our emails, and there was no letter from FIFA. I don’t know where they got their information from.
“If there is any such letter, let them show it; unless they have someone in FIFA giving them information ahead of official communication to the NFF.”
The NFF is claiming that as much as nine players who featured for Congo DR during the World Cup play offs in Morocco November were not Bonafide citizens of Congo DR. FIFA promised to look into the petition.
Nigeria was hopeful of reaching the World Cup having failed to do so in the group qualifiers, they were given a second chance, but lost on penalty shootout to Congo DR. Nigeria beat Gabon 4-2, while Congo DR beat Cameroon 1-0 to set up the final.
