Presidential aspirant in the 2027 elections Peter Obi said any attempt by the ruling party and the Independent National Electoral Commission to manipulate the outcome of the poll will be resisted lawfully and legitimately.
Obi was speaking in Enugu while declaring his wish to team up with the African Democratic Congress, a move that has been welcomed by the top echelons of the ADC formed with sole aim of unseating President Bola Tinubu and his All-Progressives Congress.
“We have all watched those who benefitted from our democracy now becoming accessories of our democracy either through coercion or gangsterism to the opposition,” Obi said.
“We can’t allow this to happen; we will resist it. We now see people celebrating electoral fraud publicly.
“And we are saying that those planning to rig elections in Nigeria come 2027, we will resist it by every means lawful and legitimate.”
Obi who was the Labour Party candidate in the 2023 election was the popular choice of many Nigerians, but the result as declared by the INEC did not meet the expectations local and international observers especially when a critical electoral result portal malfunction during collations of results. Many believed that it was during that unexplained break down, the results were tweaked in the favour of President Tinubu.
Former Vice President Abubakar Atiku who was the Peoples Democratic Party, flag bearer in that election said Obi teaming up with the ADC was a landmark development.
“Today marks a significant moment in the history of political coalitions in our country, with the official declaration of my brother and associate, Peter Obi, into the African Democratic Congress,” Atiku posted on his X social media page.
“It is my pleasure to welcome him officially, as we look forward to a robust working relationship that will foster a virile opposition, one that will ultimately form a government capable of bringing prosperity and peace to our people.”
