Former world boxing heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is back in the UK after the ghastly December 29, 2025 car crash that claimed the lives of his two associates.
Joshua and the driver of the SUV Kayode Adeniyi survived the crash with minor injuries, but Sina Ghami and Latif ‘Latz’ Ayodele whose side of the car impacted on a parked truck died on the spot. Their funerals will take place at a London mosque on Sunday.
Meanwhile members of Joshua’s family in Sagamu, Ogun State said they have deeply been hurt and saddened by the accident, which happened along the Lagos Ibadan expressway near the Sagamu intersection.
According to Joshua’s uncle Adedamola Joshua, they had looked forward to having him for the Christmas and New Year holiday.
“It has really left us in shock because this is not the first, the second, or the third time he has been coming home, so what happened? Why now? He just arrived in the country six hours ago on that day, and was eager to see his family in Sagamu, only for things to go the way they went,” Adedamola told the Punch.
He lamented that the accident scene was desecrated as gory pictures of the crash went around the social media.
“Some Nigerians act badly at accident scenes. When they are supposed to help, you will see them bringing out their phones to make videos and even steal from the victims. That is not right.
“We even heard that Anthony Joshua’s phone was stolen during the accident; such attitudes must be discouraged. The police and other emergency responders should get to the scene of an accident on time and cordon off the place.”
