The United States military Friday night invaded Venezuela and its long time President Nicolas Maduro and his wife captured and flown to an unknown destination.
Tensions have been high between the US President Donald Trump and his Venezuela counterpart Maduro over narcotics supplied into the US and like in 1989 when President George H.W. Bush sent troops into Panama and captured its President Manuel Noriega, US special forces entered Venezuela albeit stealthier and took Maduro without much resistance.
“The U.S. military successfully completed a large-scale strike against Venezuela, and Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores have been arrested and transferred outside Venezuela,” Mr. Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social Saturday morning.
President Maduro had previously been indicted by the U.S. government on charges of “narco-terrorism.” It is analyzed that a “hybrid operation” was carried out, where U.S. judicial agencies such as the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) provided the justification for the military operation, and the U.S. military used physical force to secure the suspects. Earlier, the Venezuelan government declared a state of emergency at dawn today, saying “the U.S. attack has begun,” which shows the urgent situation at the start of this arrest operation.
Meanwhile Venezuela Vice President Delsi Rodríguez stated in a call with Venezuelan state TV, VTV, that “the whereabouts of President Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores are unclear, and we do not know where they are.” With agency reports
