One thing that worries Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi in Monday’s Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 tie is the fighting spirit of the Mozambique team.
Though on paper the Super Eagles are favourites to win and progress to the quarter-final, Ndidi stated that the Black Mambas are a real threat.
“We’ve watched them in group-stage games; they are really fight. The main focus is on us—how we approach the game, how we want it.
” No team in this tournament should be underrated. No team at all.
“They are a very good team. They want to play, they are very aggressive, and they play like a team, so we’ve seen the team.”
Nigeria and Mozambique have met once in the AFCON tournament and that was in 2010 in Angola. The Super Eagles beat the Black Mambas 3-2 with Peter Odemwingie scoring two and Obafemi Martins scoring one in the group stages. The Super Eagles won bronze in that tournament beating Algeria 1-0.
