Barley 24 hours after he declared he wanted to be addressed as Manchester United manager and not head coach, Ruben Amorim has been pushed out of his job by the United board.
According to a statement by the club, United are reluctantly parting with the Portuguese born coach after 13 months in charge. Darren Fletcher will take charge for Wednesday’s Premier League game against Burnley.
After United’s 1-1 draw against Leeds at the weekend, Amorim voiced out his frustration with the club’s management over their lack of interest to bring in reinforcement this January and also, Amorim stated that he is uncomfortable being addressed as “head coach.”
“With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change,” United said.
“This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish.
“The club would like to thank Ruben for his contribution to the club and wishes him well for the future.”
