What is believed to be unexploded bombs from the US attack on terror gangs during the Christmas holiday in some parts of northwest Nigeria have been discovered in Niger State.
The bombs were discovered in Ganaru community in Zugurma district of Mashegu local government area by farmers. According to Niger State Police Commissioner Adamu Elleman bomb experts were sent to evacuate the device.
“An explosive device was found in the state. The command has deployed bomb experts to the scene to ascertain and possibly detonate the explosive. It was one explosive device and not three as claimed by the villagers.
“People should go about their legitimate businesses without fear of intimidation. Experts have been deployed to evacuate the bomb professionally,” Adamu Elleman said.
Mashegu local government chairman, Jibrin Egade, said Tuesday that the area has been cordoned off from the people to avoid an explosion that could lead to casualties.
“Some farmer in my local government were going to their farm when they found the explosives planted by the roadside. They immediately contacted me. I have also contacted the security agencies, and they have taken over the place.
“My people and I were surprised to see a bomb in our domain. There is no security challenge here,” he said.
