Once again, the issue of unpaid bonuses has reared its ugly head at the Africa Cup of Nations as the Super Eagles are demanding for the payment of bonuses from previous matches.
The Super Eagles will play against Algeria in Saturday’s quarterfinal of the AFCON in Marrakech, they refused to travel or train choosing to remain in their hotel rooms in Fez.
According to reports, the Super Eagles and their handlers have not been paid for outings in their group and round of 16 games, matches they won and establishing themselves as one of the favourites for the title.
Nigeria Football Federation and their National Sports Commission collaborators are said to be rallying round to sort out things with the sulking players.
At the FIFA World Cup qualifiers play offs in Morocco last November, the Super Eagles also protested over the NFF’s failure to settle their outstanding allowances. The team came out and beat Gabon in their first game, but fell short in the second game against Congo DR.
“This is one of the reasons Nigeria is not going to the world cup, here we go again. I won’t be surprised if the Super Eagles campaign ends on Saturday,” said a member of the supporters’ club.
